Pry Schools in Ekiti Shut as Teachers Down Tools

Primary schools across the 16 Local Government Areas of Ekiti State were on Monday shut down as teachers began a two-day warning strike because of unpaid salaries and entitlements.
Rumour had it last week that teachers at that level would commence a warning strike on Monday, February 8, for the non-payment of the  2014 leave bonus and the outstanding September, 2014 salaries which ex-Governor Kayode Fayemi owed them.
Members of the public were confounded as the primary school teachers remained the most trusted support base of Governor Ayodele
Fayose and they played prominent a role in the victory he recorded during the keenly contested June 21, 2014 poll.
More confusion came as the members of the Association of Primary Schools Head-teachers of Nigeria, maintained  through a statement aired on state radio and television that primary school teachers would not go on strike or contemplate doing so.
But signals that the strike was holding began to manifest about 7.55am when pupils, who had reported to schools for academic activities,  on Monday, quickly returned home .
