ALGIERS- The terrorist attacks perpetrated in Burkina Faso on
Friday and Saturday, leaving 23 people dead, sparked off strong
reactions worldwide and calls to step up efforts to combat terrorism.
Algeria "has condemned in the strongest terms" the terrorist attacks that targeted yesterday and today some places in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, and reiterated "its conviction that terrorism represents a global and real threat to international peace and security, and that this scourge it can be countered only through the mobilization and the joint efforts of international community," said Saturday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a communiqué.
Algeria also "expressed its solidarity with the families of the victims, as well as with the government and the people of Burkina Faso," added the communiqué.
The European Union, through its High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, expressed its solidarity with Burkina Faso following the terrorist attack.
"The EU is united with Burkina Faso and other Sahel countries in the fight against terrorism as well as in defending the values of peace, freedom and diversity, as it has been asserted by the heads of State and Government of Sahel G5 in November," said Mogherini.
She also underlined EU commitment to using all its instruments to fight, together, against this common threat," adding that "this terrorist act comes as the people of Burkina Faso have clearly expressed, through peaceful vote last November, their determination to live in peace and stability."
France condemned the "appalling and cowardly attack" in Ouagadougou.
"French forces are supporting the Burkinabe forces," said the French Presidency, adding that the French president has expressed his full support to Burkina Faso's President Kaboré.
Spain also strongly condemned the Attack and expressed condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the authorities and the people of Burkina Faso, said Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
It reiterated its "rejection" of terrorism, whatever the motivations and the places, as well as its commitment to cooperating jointly with the international community to eradicate the scourge, added the source.
