Families call for kidnapped Nigeria girls' return

Families of the girls kidnapped from a school in Nigeria two years ago have renewed their calls for swift action on the return of their loved ones.

Around 300 family members and supporters marched through the streets of Nigeria's capital, Abuja, on Thursday.

More than 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped by the Boko Haram militant group in April 2014 when it raided a school in the northeastern part of the country. The group threatened to sell the girls as slaves, sending shockwaves across the globe. The girls have since been unaccounted for.

Many of the mothers wept as they joined the march.
Some of them collapsed in tears and had to be carried.

The rally participants met with Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari, who reportedly promised to do all he can to rescue the girls.

Buhari had ordered the military to eliminate the Boko Haram by the end of last year. But the group continues to stage attacks, pushing up the death toll.
