How we invaded kidnapper’s den at the forest of death – Niger Police

NIGER State Police image maker, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bala Elkana, recently, spoke on how the command stormed the notorious Masalacin-Zaki forest popularly called the forest of death in Mashegu Local Government Area of the state to engage kidnappers in a fierce gun battle that ended up with the arrest of three deadly bandits and recovery of arms and ammunitions which they used in terrorizing the state. He spoke with Chinenye Ozor in Minna, Niger state.

THE invasion: NIGER state police command is attuned to investigation and intelligence in the spirit of team work. Recently, through its operatives at the anti – kidnap squad and based on level profiled information, we swooped on Masalacin Zaki forest, in Mashegu local government area, described as the den of kidnappers in the state.

The invasion of the forest was one of the most herculean assignments of the anti – kidnap squad as men of the underworld engaged the police in gun battle for three man hours. During the operation at Zaki forest of death, one of the bandits was fatally injured while two others identified as; Adamu Bello and Manu Chiroma, were arrested.

The command recovered two AK 47 rifles with 134 rounds of live ammunitions and two motorcycles. The matter is still being investigated by the command as at the time of this report.

Cattle rustlers The command’s dragnets spread to dingy places, suburbs and hinter-lands from police divisions to Area commands through out the state, to ensure that citizens and visitors enjoy convivial atmosphere. The Police Area command, Minna, working on a tip-off arrested three cattle rustlers who specialised in stealing cattles from Zamfara state to Niger state.

The three cattle rustlers identified simply as Abubakar Sani, Mohammed Saidu Suleiman and Usman Walkili all male adults of Saboon Gada village via Kateregi local government area, Niger state, were arrested with a total number of 62 cattles suspected to have been stolen from Zamfara state to Niger state.

Menace of armed robbers in the state: The command in its avowed efforts to checkmate the atrocious acts of armed robbers in the state, opened up channels of action on armed robbery point to point to ensure no breathing space for hoodlums in the state. On the strength of information made available, the special anti- robbery squad (SARS) raided Kateregi forest in Kacha local government area, arrested one notorious criminal who has been terrorising and robbing unsuspecting victims of their valuables, trinkets and cash. The suspect, Adamu Abubakar, male adult of Keregi village was arrested with one locally- fabricated SMG riffle and 21 rounds of live ammunition.

In the same vein, the anti -robbery squad equally trailed and apprehended another armed robber identified as Amadu Mohammed of Ngongo local government area, Kano state, recovered one locally -made revolver pistol with two live ammunitions. The suspect and his accomplices (still at large) have been terrorising inhabitants of Wushishi and its environs in the recent past.

Recovery of N294, 000 cash ransom: Days are gone when the police were seen from a wrong perception of what do you bring and what you have. Anchored on investigation, the command received information through its anti- kidnap squad and apprehended two notorious kidnappers who have been terrorising inhabitants of Edati community in the hinterland of the state. The suspects; Idris Isah and Muhammadu Sani, both male adults are currently helping the police in their investigations. The sum of N294, 000 was recovered from them as part of the ransom collected over the kidnap of one Sauda Dahiru of Dabigi camp, Edati.

He has promised that the command would never renege in her efforts to flush out kidnappers and men of the under world in the state, stating that it will continue to live up to expectations in crime detection at all times.
