Facebook is testing a series of new add-on features for its Messenger app including the integration of text messaging.
Facebook representatives said that the company was looking at the
possibility of allowing multiple user log-in, a feature already rolled
out on Instagram to allow prolific or popular users, such as celebrities
or brands, to toggle between different accounts.
They added that an SMS support feature may be introduced to ‘bring
all [users’] conversations to one place’. It is at present in the beta
testing stages and only available to a small group of Android users.
‘At Messenger, we are always trying to create new ways for people to communicate seamlessly with everyone,’ Facebook told Venture Beat.

‘It’s a really simple way to get, see and respond to all your SMS
messages in just one app. By choosing to access your SMS messages in
Messenger, they’re right alongside all the other enhanced features that
Messenger offers.’
The multiple log-in feature may be an attempt by the tech giant to attract more adverts from leading brands.
There has also been speculation that if the features prove
successful, WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, could see the
introduction of similar functions
