A former Political Adviser to former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Abah
Dabo on Thursday told a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that he
received N25 million from the former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP,Olisa Metuh, to manage the image of the PDP and
President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 general elections.
Testifying before Justice Okon Abang in the case of alleged criminal
diversion of N400 million naira preferred against Metuh by the Federal
Government, Dabo stated that the money he received from the former
spokesperson of the PDP on the 16th of December, 2014, was meant for
countering the negative publicity being received by President Goodluck
Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party from the then opposition
party.
The witness, however, told the court that though he never knew the
source of the money, he decided to refund the N25 million naira to the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission when he read in the media that
Metuh received the fund from the Office of the National Security
Adviser.
Metuh is currently standing trial on a seven-count charge of money laundering.
EFCC had accused the PDP spokesman of receiving the sum of N400 million
from from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo
Mohammed Dasuki (rtd).
The money, according to the anti-graft agency was part of the $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgents in the North-Eastern part of the country.
