For the health-conscious, the “Keep Calm, Caesar On” chicken salad with parmesan and baby kale, may sound positively healthy, but when topped with the indulgent creamy Asiago Caesar dressing on the crispy chicken version, the salad slides down the scale in terms of nutrition.
The salad contains MORE than 730 calories, 53 grams of fat and 1,400mg of sodium, according to McDonald’s nutritional information.
The salad without the dressing has 520 calories, 31g of fat and 1,140mg of sodium.
According to CBC News, who spoke to Toronto-based dietician, Shauna Lindzon, it amounts to "a fat and sodium overload".
"Putting kale into the menu doesn't mean you're getting a healthy choice."
She added that you would have to eat the equivalent of three McDonald’s regular hamburgers to ingest the same number of calories.
The nutritionist then advised using only half the dressing and removing the feta, as it’s high in salt.
The fast-food chain made headlines last year when it announced kale would be joining the menu.
The news came after lagging sales and a declaration by CEO Steve Easterbrook that he planned on turning the chain into a “modern, progressive burger company.”
