A 26-year old woman, Favour Okon, was on Tuesday charged before an
Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing her
neighbour’s N600, 000.
Okon was charged alongside one Jack Keita, 27.
They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
They were, however, granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Tubi Olajide, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 25 at Otodogbame Community in Eti-Osa Local Government area of Lagos.
Olajide said the accused burgled the house of one Hassan Idris, their neighbour, and stole N600, 000.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 285 (1) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The duo, however, pleaded innocence of the offence.
Counsel to the accused, Mrs Helen Ibeji, had urged the court to grant her clients bail on liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs S. K. Matepo, ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused.
“The sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and must swear to an affidavit of means,’’ she said.
Matepo adjourned the case to Feb. 25 for mention.
