A 36-year-old man, Inusa Ali, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defrauding a job seeker identified as Oluwaseye to the tune of N124,000, under the charade of getting him enlisted in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, the suspect who hails from Borno State, was arrested January 5 at his residence, 15, Anifowose Street, Amolasho, Abeokuta, the state capital by police detectives attached to the Abeokuta Area Command when report of his criminal act was brought to the Area Commander in charge of Abeokuta metropolis, by the victim.
Confirming the arrest and parading the suspect on Friday, Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said a forged letter of appointment on a fake letter-head of the NSCDC, and other documents were recovered from the suspect.
Adejobi said the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had directed that the suspect be charged to court immediately, adding that the CP also warned members of the public to be wary of such unscrupulous elements who were scammers and perpetual criminals.
“The CP warns that the police command will not tolerate any act of criminality and extortion of innocent Nigerians in this manner.
“The police command will make proper announcement when we commence our recruitment exercise.
“The CP also seize this opportunity to clear the air that police recruitment has not commenced, so members of the public are advised to be careful and avoid similar criminal act of scamming or extortion,” the PPRO added.
