Olakiitan Victor in Ado Ekiti
There was pandemonium in Aramoko Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government
Area of Ekiti on Wednesday, as a driver of an 18-passenger bus owned by
Lafe Ade Transport, Mr Toyin Philips , was killed by suspected highway
robbers.
The bus was owned by the late Chairman of the National Union of Road
Transport Workers, Mr Omolafe Aderiye, who was assassinated in
September, 2014 by unknown gunmen, which fuelled suspicion that the
driver could have died under similar circumstance.
The incident, which happened few metres away from a police checkpoint
along Aramoko-Igede highway at about 7 am ,had provoked members of the
National Union of Road Transport Workers, who staged a protest against
what they described as alleged police complicity in the robbery .
The visibly enraged drivers, according to reliable sources, were said
to have descended heavily on the Divisional Police Officer in the
Council, Mr Anthony Okpaleye, stripped him naked and destroyed two police vans during the rampage.
