Man drowned trying to save swimmer
Cape Town - A man drowned after he had dived in to help save another man who had gotten into difficulty in the sea off Kogel Bay near Cape Town on Monday afternoon, ER24 said.ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the man, believed to be in his twenties, drowned at Kogel Bay near Gordons Bay.
Meiring said: “It is understood that a swimmer had experienced difficulty in the deep water. A member of public noticed and jumped into the water in an effort to save the man. It is then believed that the rescuer experienced difficulty while the other swimmer managed to come ashore.
“When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene, they found the patient being tended to by first-aiders, who had been performing CPR for some time.
“Unfortunately, upon assessment, paramedics found that nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.”
Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
