FCT NSCDC Arrests 50 Vandals, Convicts 22 In 2015
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has disclosed that it arrested over 50 suspected vandals specialised in stealing power and road installations, charged 25 to courts and secured conviction for 22 of criminals in 2015 .
The leadership of the command who vowed that they will not relent in ensuring complete execution of their assigned mandates, said they will attain more results if provided with more sophisticated operational vehicles, permanent office accommodation and unalloyed cooperation from members of the public.
FCT Commandant, Mr. Patrick Ukpan who made the revelation while reeling out its achievements in 2015 and projections for 2016, stated that aside the aforementioned, the command, under his watch also prosecuted 15 persons for illegally lifting petroleum products without valid licences in the federal high court.
According to Ukpan, over 20 illegal fuel vendors were arrested and prosecuted as public nuisance in magistrate court during the year under review, adding that the FCT command, through its team of dedicated crack team busted five syndicates involved in job racketeering using fake NSCDC letter headed papers and other vital documents of the Corps.
He disclosed that three of these cases have so far been concluded and the culprits have been sentenced accordingly, while the remaining two are still under going prosecution.
Patrick who noted that the FCT Command of the Corps performed creditably well in her core mandate under his saddle, said they were able to maintain 24 hours surveillance over critical infrastructure, sites and projects for the federal, state and local government councils.
He reeled out infrastructures jealousy guided by his men and officers to include NNPC pipelines, Independent Power Producers equipment, Communication equipment, Water Board Installations, manhole/ Towers and sewage covers.
According to him, aside collaborating with other agencies to respond to various emergencies and disasters that occurred during the period under review, said the Corps placed the various Private Guards Companies under close supervision and monitoring to ensure effectiveness.
