CAIRO (Ma'an) -- An Egyptian baby was killed and three of his family members were injured when a shell hit their home in the Sinai Peninsula on Friday morning.
Egyptian sources told Ma’an thay armed men fired a shell at the Egyptian army, but missed, hitting a house on the Egyptian side of the city of Rafah instead.The injured were taken to the al-Arish Hospital in critical condition.The Sinai Peninsula has witnessed bouts of violence since 2011, with armed militants, mainly affiliated with the group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, regularly attacking infrastructure and clashing with Egyptian armed forces.The majority of the group pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group in November 2014, changing their name to Sinai Province. Attacks by the group have left several Egyptian military personnel dead and led Egyptian presidents to repeatedly declare a state of emergency in the Sinai.
