A 58-year-old driver, Emmanuel Egejuru, was yesterday arraigned before a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.
The defendant allegedly committed the offence on February 22, 2012.
Egejuru is answering to a count charge of rape before Justice S.S. Ogunsanya.
In his statement in the court, Egejuru confessed to have committed the offence.
He said: “On February 22, 2012, I did not go to work. I met her (the victim) in the toilet when I wanted to use the toilet.
“I held her by the waist and embraced her.”
The prosecutor, Inspector Jane Okogbo, said the offence was contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
However, lawyer to the defendant, Bonnyface, applied for bail on a liberal term, a development which was not objected to by the prosecution lawyer, Mrs M. M. Balogun, on the grounds that it was a bailable offence.
The judge admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million, and adjourned the case to March 23.
